MONDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF LENT

I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, says the Lord, but rather in his conversion, that he may live.

monday of week FIVE - aPRIL 7, 2025

Our Lenten journey..Lent is an invitation to allow our sin and darkness and wounds come to the surface so that we can deal with them and allow them to be healed by the grace of Jesus. During these forty days of Lent, we do not hide from our sinfulness or prevent God speaking to us or healing us during this Lent. It is only when we admit something that we can deal with it. The first stage in overcoming anything is to admit the problem. If we remain in denial, we miss out on the grace of God to heal us and renew us and make us whole. During Lent we say “no” to the devil’s temptations to continue committing sin, and instead we trust in our heavenly Father like Jesus in the desert.

Day 34 – Novena Prayer For Lent

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Almighty and Everlasting God, You have given the human race Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of humility. He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man And giving His life on the Cross. Help us to bear witness to You By following His example of suffering And make us worthy to share in His Resurrection. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.

Amen

Mass Readings:

Reading I -  Daniel 13:1-9, 15-17, 19-30, 33-62

Thus says the LORD:

Lo, I am about to create new heavens

  and a new earth;

The things of the past shall not be remembered

  or come to mind.

Instead, there shall always be rejoicing and happiness

  in what I create;

For I create Jerusalem to be a joy

  and its people to be a delight;

I will rejoice in Jerusalem

  and exult in my people.

No longer shall the sound of weeping be heard there,

  or the sound of crying;

No longer shall there be in it

  an infant who lives but a few days,

  or an old man who does not round out his full lifetime;

He dies a mere youth who reaches but a hundred years,

  and he who fails of a hundred shall be thought accursed.

They shall live in the houses they build,

  and eat the fruit of the vineyards they plant.

Responsorial Psalm -  Psalm 23:1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6

R. (4ab) Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.

R. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side.
He guides me in right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
that give me courage.

R. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side.
You spread the table before me
in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

R. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side.
Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
for years to come.

R. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side.

Gospel - John 8:12-20

Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have

the light of life." So the Pharisees said to him, "You testify

on your own behalf, so your testimony cannot be verified."

Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I do testify

on my own behalf, my testimony can be verified,

because I know where I came from and where I am going.

But you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

You judge by appearances, but I do not judge anyone.

And even if I should judge, my judgement is valid,

because I am not alone, but it is I and the Father

who sent me. Even in your law it is written

that the testimony of two men can be verified.

I testify on my behalf and so does the Father who sent me."

So they said to him, "Where is your father?" Jesus answered,

"You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me,

you would know my Father also." He spoke these words

while teaching in the treasury in the temple area.

But no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
